“The childhood of Romeo and Juliet”: the soap opera for teenagers is inspired by Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy

This is the first partnership between SBT and Prime Video; Bianca Rinaldi and Lú Grimaldi are also in the cast of the new soap opera, which should replace ‘Poliana Moça’

The childhood of Romeo and Julietfirst co-production between SBT extension AND First videowill adapt the classic story of William Shakespeare in a soap opera for teenagers. Still no premiere date announced, the soap opera, which just revealed new photos, is expected to replace Poliana Mocha on the broadcaster’s schedule and also visible on the streaming platform.

Created by Iris Abravanel, The childhood of Romeo and Juliet follows the story of two teenagers from different socioeconomic backgrounds, who live in the same neighborhood and strike up a romance after meeting by chance. The differences between their families and friends, however, will hinder their relationship.

Actor Miguel Angelo will play Romeo, an overprotected rich boy who trains to be a tennis player. Vittoria Seixas will play Julieta, a girl who loves adventure, skateboarding and who hides her romantic side.

In the cast there is also André Matos who plays Fausto; Fábio Ventura as Bernardo Monteiro, Romeu’s father; Bianca Rinaldi as Vera Monteiro, Romeu’s mother; Karin Hils as Gláucia, Romeo’s manipulative aunt; Lú Grimaldi as Clara Campos, Julieta’s grandmother and confidante; and Luiz Guilherme, as Hélio, Julieta’s grandfather and coach of the sports center in the Castanheiras neighborhood where the telenovela takes place.

In October 2023, the Brazilian channel and the streaming platform announced a long-term partnership for the licensing and co-production of soap operas. Poliana Mochaa teen soap opera based on the book by Eleanor H. Porter (1868-1920) originally published in 2015 and recently rediscovered, starring Sophia Valverde, was the first production to benefit from the partnership. Cheese and guava

Cheese and guava is the first of the great tragedies written by Shakespeare (1564-1616) at the end of the 1500s. It is the impossible love story between Giulietta Capuleti and Romeo Montecchio, sons of rival families who bathed the streets of Verona in blood while the couple of young people dreams of living this love in peace. There are books, plays, operas, concerts, ballets, films and, soon, even this novel.
