On April 9, the premiere of the thriller “Predators” by Rodrigo Sorogoyen will take place in the KION online cinema. He made a movie about a French couple of farmers who came to a Spanish village – this is not welcomed by the indigenous inhabitants of the settlement, who are zealously fighting for the land. The roles were played by Marina Fois, Denis Menoche and Luis Saera.
According to the plot, the French Antoine and Olga live in a small Spanish village, grow tomatoes and restore houses on the purchased plots. The couple lives quietly, but their neighbors, two brothers, really dislike their activities. At first, they simply let go of jokes in the direction of Antoine, then they insult Olga, then they begin to harm the plot of the spouses. The degree of cruelty quickly increases, the family turns to the police for help, but the authorities do not want to do anything. Then Antoine decides to film the threats on camera, unaware of the consequences of this step.
The debut of Rodrigo Sorogoyen “Kingdom” was first shown at the Toronto Film Festival. For the tape, he received two figurines of the national Spanish film award “Goya” in the categories “Best Director” and “Best Original Screenplay”. Sorogoyen’s second film was even more successful, his “Mother” growing out of a 2018 Oscar-nominated short film of the same name. The full meter also participated in the secondary competition program of the Venice Film Festival “Horizons”, and the lead actress Marta Nieto even received a prize. Then the picture was nominated three times for the Goya Award.
“Predators” is his third feature film, a participant in the out-of-competition “Cannes Premieres” program of last year’s Cannes Film Festival. After a high start, the film visited several more prestigious shows: in San Sebastian, the film received the Audience Award, the Spanish Film Academy awarded Sorogoyen with nine Goya statuettes, and the French one with a Cesar statuette.
