Once: While trying to repair an underground pipe, Mario and his brother Luigi, both plumbers, find themselves plunged into a magical new world through a mysterious pipe. But when the two brothers are separated, Mario embarks on a wild adventure to find Luigi.
In his quest, he can rely on the Mushroom Toad, a resident of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the wise advice, in terms of fighting techniques, of Princess Peach, the decisive warrior at the head of the kingdom. This is how Mario manages to mobilize his forces to complete the mission.
What they love: Whether you (or your kids) are a Super Mario Bros gamer or not, the movie will transport you into a colorful magical world that you’ll never want to leave.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, director and screenwriter respectively of Teen Titans GO! For the movies, this adaptation of Nintendo’s video games ditches the poor live-action version that came out in 1993.
We find Mario and Luigi, two plumber brothers of Italian origin, who still live with their parents in a small apartment in Brooklyn. A newly appointed plumber in overalls and white gloves struggles to find clients.
Trying to survive the waters of their neighborhood, they find themselves in a magical world populated by adorable talking mushrooms (much to Mario’s delight!), demonic turtles, and human princesses.

Mario and Luigi
This movie allows us to discover the life of Mario and Luigi, their family, their problems and how this boy in the red cap – mocked for his small size – became a real hero.
Created by Minions Studio
Made by Illumination, the studio behind Despicable Me, Les Minions and the Tous en scène saga, the feature film is incredibly rich in visuals. We enjoy moving between different worlds: Brooklyn, Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser’s World or Kong’s Island to discover the inhabitants of these worlds. With special mention to the toad.
A colorful, rhythmic and funny film inspires the audience into a fascinating world related to various video games: be it classic Super Mario Bros.from Mario Kartfrom Super Mario World 3Dfrom Luigi Palace Or even a game Donkey Kong Country.

mario the cat
Thus, the feature film is full of references that gaming fans will love, but neophytes alike will understand and appreciate, because Super Mario Bros. is first and foremost an exciting adventure film with unconventional characters. A great odyssey for ages 6 and up that will delight the whole family.
Things can bother them : The fearsome Bowser and his minions, the Koops, can scare little ones at first, especially in the scene where Luigi finds himself lost in the Eternal Forest. After that, Mario’s scared brother must face off against Koopa Zombies and Maskas.
The sequence in which Bowser wants to offer Peaches and throws his prisoners, including Luigi, into the lava may also disturb the most sensitive.
But little by little, Bowser’s character becomes more and more fun (especially when he serenades Peaches) and should put the younger audience at ease.

Luigi and the Zombie Koopas
What will they keep inside? : Impression of the hero of the movie! For 40 years, the world-famous mustachioed plumber has been an ideal hero for children. His good humor, his kindness, his stubbornness and his loyalty make him an extremely likable character. But the other characters of the film are not left out, especially Princess Atami, who is a real athlete with a fiery temper.
Peach returns her letters of nobility to the function of a princess
Because the Sovereign of the Mushroom Kingdom has many abilities and doesn’t just lead the toads. This dedicated and brave princess is a true role model. Anya Taylor-Joy, who voices the character in the original version, explains:
“Peach returns her letters of nobility to her function as a princess because she is the master of her own destiny. She is not weak or helpless, nor does she look like a damsel in distress. He is not waiting for someone to come and save him.
He is unyieldingly sovereign, decisive, competent and of great generosity. He cares deeply for the fate of the Mushroom Kingdom and wants its people to live peacefully and happily..”

Toad and Peach
The film conveys the message of mutual aid and proves that we should always move forward. Moreover, for the directors, the central theme of the film is perseverance. Aaron Horvath writes in the press:
“The movie tells us that we should never give up. The only way to lose in Super Mario is to give up – and if you keep going, you’ll get better and eventually beat Bowser. So that became the main theme of the film.“.
Mocked for his size, Mario proves that when you’re willing to do anything to save the ones you love, the smallest heroes can prove to be the most formidable opponents.
