On Wednesday evenings, from 22:50, TF1 will broadcast the twenty-third season of Special Unit New York. A new salvo of episodes that promises to always be as rich with upheavals for the investigators of this unit as any other.
In this 23rd season, Benson (Mariska Hargitay), injured in the first few episodes, hesitates to end her career, but she decides to stay with the team. Her friendship with Rafael Barba (Raúl Esparza) will also be put to the test, with Olivia accusing him of representing gangster Richard Wheatley (Dylan McDermott) during his trial for the murder of Cathy Stabler.
On the heart side, the captain reconnects with one of his old flames, and Amanda Rollins (Kelly Giddish) finally decides to go public with her relationship with Carisi (Peter Scanavino).
Event crossovers
The 23rd season of SVU New York was marked by several crossover events with New York organized crime, the seventh series of the Law & Order universe centered around Elliot Stabler’s (Christopher Meloni) character. Thus, these special episodes will be the scene of a reunion between Benson and Stabler, nearly 10 years after the latter’s departure.
A lot of travel
This new burst of episodes also marks the departure of several major characters. This is indeed the last season for interpreters Jamie Gray Hyder and Demore Barnes, Catriona “Kat” Tamine and Christian Garland, who made the decision to leave the New York Special Unit within the first two episodes. But who says departure also says new arrival, as actor Octavio Pisano, seen in the feature Coyote, joins the detective series as Inspector Joe Velasco.
Anniversary episode
New York SVU is going through a very important milestone at 23 seasons, the series is indeed celebrating its 500th episode (season six). For the occasion, two former faces well known to fans of Dick Wolff’s fiction will come to greet their former colleagues.
This anniversary episode will feature Captain Don Cragen, played by Dan Florek, and ex-cop Nick Amaro, played by Danny Pino.
Catch the new season 23 of New York Special this Wednesday, April 5 from 10.50pm on TF1.
