Santos does not sack Marcos Leonardo for the Brazilian Under 20 matches

Clubs are under no obligation to release players outside the FIFA date

Santos did not release striker Marcos Leonardo for the Brazilian under-20 team and the striker will be ‘not called up’. The club sent a letter to the CBF on Thursday saying it could not be without one of its regulars.

The information was initially disclosed by UOL. THE THING! tried to contact Santos, but did not hear back until this article was published. The friendlies, scheduled for 19, 22 and 25 April, are not FIFA-Dates. Therefore, clubs are not obliged to release their athletes to participate in the games.

Ramon Menezes’ side’s string of friendlies has caused headaches for the CBF, which has called up players without consulting the clubs. Now, the body is trying to deal with a flood of ‘revocation’ requests it has received in recent days. Palmeiras and Vasco are examples of other clubs that, like Santos, have asked the entity to release their athletes.
