All is well in the best of worlds for Zack Snyder. The former DC cashier has approached Netflix to develop his next projects. And among them is Rebel Moon.
While the film is slated to hit our small screens on December 22, we’re learning today New York Times That this is the first of a trilogy (and not a duology as previously announced).
We knew that Snyder and Netflix’s ambition for this project was to turn it into a franchise by creating an expanded universe. A video game will also follow the film’s release next Christmas.
It must be said that Zack Snyder has been working on this world for fifteen years. Rebellion Moon was originally envisioned as a spin-off from Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi. With LucasFilm turned down, the director and Shay Hatten (John Wick) have been working on a new proposal that will eventually hit the streaming platform.
It must be said that the synopsis is clearly inspired by Star Wars: a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the forces of the tyrant Regent Balisarius. They send a young woman with a mysterious past to find warriors on neighboring planets to help them settle there.
At the moment, the following are announced in the casting: Sofia Boutella (The Mummy), Charlie Hunnam, Ed Skrein (The Transporter), Djimon Hounsou (Shazam), Ray Fisher (Justice League) or even Duna Bai (Sense8).
Snyder is going to go even further. According to Slash moviewho interviewed one of the re-recording mixers on the feature film while we were still talking about the duology, two versions of Rebel Moon will come together:There will be an R-Rated version for both, so we’ll be mixing four different movies.
It is not yet known where and to whom they will be offered. But this will be the first time that Netflix will present two versions of the same movie to its subscribers….
