Luiz Pizarro proposes to look at the world from another angle, in the exhibition Metapaisagens

Artist from Rio de Janeiro exhibits 18 canvases at the Paço Imperial in which he leaves the human figure in the background and addresses the planet

RIVER – Luiz Pizzarro decided to hold a “proactive” exhibition to showcase his latest work. The artist from Rio de Janeiro, used to presenting the human figure in his works, this time invites people to look at the world from a different angle.

In Metascapesa show that opened this week at Paço Imperial in downtown Rio, the artist takes people out of his paintings and expresses a more holistic view of the elements.

There is a riot of colors, a feature of Pizarro. What is not seen in the 18 exhibited canvases is the human figure – with the exception of one, and even then in a very discreet way. Instead of man, Pizarro decided to put the globe.

“I don’t work on the human figure, which is something I’ve worked on all my life. I think it’s talked about too much today; anthropocentrism has led to an excess of self-centeredness. So I decided to remove the figure and leave the others elements have strength,” he says. .

Known for being part of the generation of Brazilian art of the 80s, Luiz Pizarro points out that the intention of the exhibition is to make people look at this new work of his – whose canvases ranging in size from 1.70 to 2.25 m have been painted over the past two years – with different biases. “I see a lot of Brazilian in this painting, even a certain connection with modernism in this thing with the plants, the colors,” he assesses. “The cubes are in many different perspectives, as if they have different eyes, and that’s how we should look at the world too, from different perspectives.”

Although absent from the tracks, the human figure plays a vital role in the exhibit interactively. At the back of the room, Pizarro installed his Magic cube, or Cube of wishes, as it is also called. It is an installation in which the visitor is invited to enter to pass through wool threads based on the number of letters that make up the name. Eventually, a large interactive artwork will be assembled.

In addition to the cube, visitors will also be invited to hang three bottles: one will contain the name of a loved one; in the other someone you trust; and, in the third, a thought about the planet. “The idea of the exhibition is to create dialogues. Nowadays there is a lot of talk about dialectic, but there is little talk about dialogue”, considers the artist.

Metascapes it will be visible until May 28th. Guided tours by the artist and educator Pedro Sampaio are scheduled from Thursday to Saturday for previously registered groups. In addition to schools and the general public, Luiz Pizarro intends to bring socially vulnerable people and young people living in shelters into space.

In the end, everyone who goes to the exhibition will be able to take home a very personal memento. “Visitors can take a photo, however they want, and we’ll print it, but not as a photo. I’ve developed a technique with printers where I use the wrong acetate, where it prints, but it doesn’t stick (the ink). Then we make a monotype (with the photo) on white tissue paper and everyone takes it home as a keepsake.”
