The first images of ‘Skeleton Crew’, the new Star Wars series, promise a youthful adventure that recovers the essence of films like ‘The Goonies’.
It seemed that the presence of Jude Law would be the true star of ‘Skeleton Crew’, the Star Wars series that recovers the spirit of ‘The Goonies’ on Disney+but a group of children is going to make it difficult.
Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter and Robert Timothy Smith (with an absent Ryan Kiera Armstrong)claimed their right to become the true protagonists on the stage of Star Wars Celebration Europe, the ideal setting to present the first images of a series that, until now, had gone somewhat unnoticed by the general fandom.
Currently in production, ‘Skeleton Crew’ follows the journey of four children who make a mysterious discovery on their home planet., seemingly safe, only to end up getting lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding his way back home – and dealing with unlikely allies and enemies – will be part of his promising adventure.
“The first time I heard about this idea was during the filming of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.“, explains producer Jon Favreau, an actor in that Marvel adventure under the orders of Jon Watts, showrunner of ‘Skeleton Crew’ along with his trusted co-writer, Christopher Ford.
“Watts had the perfect pitch, he knew what he wanted to do and what we needed,” Kathleen Kennedy explains emotionally about the Watts/Ford combo that, after establishing themselves as creators of impossible stories with ‘Clown’ (2014) and ‘Police Car’ ( 2015), they received the call of the wall-crawler and created Tom Holland’s Parker trilogy, that is, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ (2017), ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ (2019) and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (2021).
The trailer shown to attendees offers a first look at the group of friends, four adventurers lost throughout the galaxy, among which one stands out for his computer-generated alien appearance. Robert Timothy Smith, in charge of interpreting the character, filmed the entire series with his colleagues in the usual outfits for motion capture.
The adventure is seen in every second of that progress, a studied return to the young audience that will become fans of the franchise and, for decades to come, will ensure its survival.
With Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson serving as executive producers, the series boasts an unbeatable cast of directors including, in addition to Watts and Ford, talents like David Lowery (‘A Ghost Story’, ‘The Green Knight’), Daniels (‘Swiss Army Man’, ‘Everything at Once Everywhere’), Jake Schreier (‘A Friend to Frank’, ‘Cities of paper’), Bryce Dallas Howard (‘The Mandalorian’, ‘The Book of Boba Fett’) and Lee Isaac Chung (‘Minari. History of my family’).
“The truth is that they have taught me everything, they are my teachers”, explains a dedicated Jude Law, a prestigious new star in the saga. “The series is full of droids, animals and aliens.”
