Injured, Renato Augusto was replaced in eight of the 11 games played this season

Corinthians have lost Renato Augusto for another spell this 2023 season. This time, the midfielder suffered a medial meniscus tear in his right knee and will need to undergo arthroscopy to fix the problem. The midfielder has been substituted in eight of the 11 games played this year.

Even though he is one of Corinthians’ main players, the midfielder is replaced quite frequently. Of Timão’s 14 matches during the year, for Campeonato Paulista and Libertadores, Renato Augusto was on the field in 11 of them.

However, he played until the final whistle in only two games: in the 2-1 win against Guarani and in the 2-2 draw with Palmeiras. In both cases the number 8 contributed an assist.

On the other nine occasions that the number 8 shirt has had on the pitch – against Água Santa, Inter de Limeira, São Paulo, Botafogo-SP, Portuguesa, Mirassol, Santos and Santo André, for Paulista, and against Liverpool-URU, for Libertadores – Corinthians totaled seven wins and four draws.

Above all, he left the field in the second half. The exceptions are in matches against Santo André and Liverpool, which were situations in which he suffered a medial collateral ligament strain in his right knee and a medial meniscus tear in the same knee, respectively.

Without Renato Augusto, therefore, the Timão begins its trajectory in the Copa do Brasil this week. This Wednesday, Corinthians faces Remo, in Belém, at the Estádio Mangueirão, in Pará. The ball rolls at 21:30 (Brasilia time) for the duel valid for the third phase of the competition.
