From Spain, studio Guiri created ‘Sith’. The director, Rodrigo Blaas, has created a story about a Sith apprentice named Lola. The cast has been revealed and Úrsula Corberó from “La Casa de Papel” will be the voice of Lola, while Luis Tosar will be the Sith master. Rodrigo said the animation style respects what Star Wars is, but that the studio was brave in its choices. Color is important, depicting hope and darkness and using red and yellow to represent Spain.

From Chile, animation studio Punkrobot created “In the Stars”. Director Gabriel Osorio created a story about two sisters who lost everything after imperial oppression. The story is based on the colonization of Patagonia that happened less than 100 years ago. It’s a mixed-media story of resistance, using stop-motion-like 3D digital graphics. Gabriel used real hand-painted backgrounds and textures fed into 3D software, including scans of Patagonian nature such as leaves. Gabriel said that Star Wars is about separated families overcoming pain through hope and asks: Can these characters go on after all this pain?

Other creators include Paul Young from the Cartoon Saloon studio in Ireland, who directed “Skreetcher’s Reach,” an Irish ghost story with a twist inspired by the Irish landscape.

Magdalena Osinska, from Aardman UK and originally from Poland, directed “I Am Your Mother”, a love letter to mothers and a positive spin on the famous series “Luke, I am your father”.

Hyeong Geun Park from Korea’s Studio Mir directed “Journey to the Dark Head,” a story about the first prehistoric war between the Jedi and the Sith.

Julien Chheng of France’s Studio La Cachette directed “The Spy Dancer,” whose main character is a cabaret dancer inspired by Josephine Baker and Mata Hari and how they helped gather information about the French resistance during B World War.

Milind D Shinde produced “The Bandits of Goal” for Studio 88 Pictures in India. The story is about brothers and how the brother becomes an unexpected hero by getting his sister to safety. The short film celebrates Indian food, colour, language, traditions and Bollywood.

“The Pit” is a collaboration between screenwriter LeAndre Thomas of Lucasfilm in California and animator Arthel Isom of D’Art Shtajio Studio in Japan. Leandre was inspired by George Floyd’s protests during the pandemic. It is animated like a traditional anime with a nostalgic atmosphere of the 80s and 90s.

Finally, “Aau’s Song” from Studio Triggerfish in South Africa, directed by Nadia Darries and Daniel Clarke, is a celebration of music and the use of song to connect with the Force. The film mainly uses voices to create the sound, giving it a unique and exciting feel.

In short, the arrival of Vision Vol 2 represents a new era in global animation, in which studios from different continents come together to create stories inspired by the Star Wars universe. Each of the short films presented at the conference offered something different, from unique animation styles to moving and inspiring stories. The premiere is scheduled for May 4.
