Millionaire businessman Nicholas Van Orton’s life runs like clockwork, but there’s a lot missing. As he prepares to celebrate his forty-eighth birthday – the age when his father ended his life – he receives an unexpected gift from his brother Konrad: an invitation from the mysterious firm CRS (or Consumer Recreation Services), which offers its customers. Immerse them in a personalized game and completely exotic.
After filling out various forms and going through a whole series of tests, Nicholas leaves the CRS office with the promise that his game will start soon, only to be told on the phone that his file has been rejected. When he returns home that evening, he finds a strange doll lying on the ground on the doorstep with a key between its teeth…
When we talk about the beginning of David Fincher’s career in the 90s, we quite instinctively cite two of his most famous feature films: The Terrible Seven and the disturbing Fight Club, which the director signed in 1995 and 1999. Between these two essentials, The Game is a little rarer in the ranking and in the top 100 of cinema.
However, it still deserves as much consideration as its predecessor and its successor, and will surely leave an indelible mark on the memory of viewers who dare to venture there.
