The country’s debut in the category was canceled due to the pandemic
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali has met with the government of Vietnam to discuss the country’s possibility of hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix in the 2024 season.
According to the Vietnam Express newspaper, the meeting took place in Hanoi and the Asian nation became a strong candidate to host an F1 race, which would have been the first in its history.
The debut edition of the Vietnam GP was due to take place at the Hanoi Street Circuit in 2020, but the country’s entry into the sport has been officially canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently, the racecourse is managed by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the infrastructure is used for local sporting events.
Another strong candidate to host an F1 race in 2024 is South Africa, but the nation’s presence is still debated. .
