The player also spoke of the choice of not having opted for the operation

After dealing with a complicated ankle injury, Calleri recovered in record time and made his first start since his improvement. The Argentine was present at São Paulo’s goalless draw with Ituano for the Copa do Brasil, and spoke about his current physical condition.

The player said his performance in Tuesday’s clash (11) was not what he expected, but he considered it “a victory”, stating that he “is very happy to be back”. Calleri had been showing ankle discomfort since Paulista’s group stage. After diagnosing the injury, the medical department even considered surgery.

However, due to a choice made by the striker himself, this option was soon discarded. Calleri’s intention was to try a conventional cure that didn’t take him off the pitch for so long. If he had done the procedure, he could have lost until the end of the season.

In his own words, ‘he believes he made the right decision’, also thanking the trust placed by the club’s medical department.

– Really, it was not a good performance. It was an injury for a long time, I’m happy, I’m back without pain and that’s why it’s a very big victory. I wanted to thank the São Paulo department that believed in me and then I didn’t need to have surgery – he said -.

Calleri had already been training for some time with the rest of the squad, but was not inserted against Tigre, for the Copa Sudamericana, because he was serving a suspension. Now, apparently, he should return to his place in the team. When he spoke about his return, he once again treated it “as a big win” and said he “made the right decision.”

– I think I made the right decision, it didn’t happen in Paulistan, it didn’t happen in Argentina, but I’m very happy. What I want most is to be on the field. When I got injured, everyone said I should have surgery and now I’m back after a few days. For me it’s a huge victory, I’m happy to be able to wear the San Paolo shirt again – he added -.
