“Barbie”: Margot Robbie talks about first reaction to reading the script

Margot Robbie, actress cast to play Barbie in theaters, revealed how she felt upon reading the first version of the script.

At first, Robbie didn’t believe this narrative could come to life. “First time I read the script at Barbie, my reaction was, ‘Oh, that’s so cool! Too bad she’ll never see the light of day… Because they’re never going to let us make this film,’” the actress told the BAFTAs. “But they did.”

Asked for more details, Robbie said he could not disclose any further information.

In addition to Margot as Barbie, the film will still have Ryan Gosling as Ken and the cast which includes names like America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Ariana Greenblatt, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya, Jamie Demetriou and Marisa Abela.

The live-action Barbie hits theaters on July 21, 2023.
