In theaters since April 5, Super Mario Bros the Movie, Nintendo’s adaptation of the popular video game franchise, has already brought many viewers to the Mushroom Kingdom. Filled with references to the Mario games, Illumination Studios’ new featurette also has some surprises for fans of the first watch.

Midway through the movie, during a completely unexpected and particularly funny scene, we see the big bad Bowser stand in front of a grand piano and begin a romantic wail, revealing his feelings for Princess Peach in music.

The song PeachPerformed by Jack Black in the original version and by Jeremy Covilho in the French version, it was created specifically for the film and combines variety All the necessary requirements for next year’s Oscar competition in the “Best Original Song” category.

Totally weird and already iconic, the song, co-written by Aaron Horvat, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond, John Spiker and Jack Black himself, has just been released online, along with some stills from the footage (see above).

While you wait to see if Bowser’s feelings will allow Super Mario Bros to win the statue, remember that in the past the Oscar for Best Original Song has already been awarded to many other animated films like Coco, The Snow Queen, The Lion. King, Aladdin or Prince of Egypt.
