Day three of Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London was spectacular. The “Villains of the Sequel Trilogy” panel featured Ian McDiarmid, Andy Serkis and Gwendoline Christie, who played Emperor Palpatine, Supreme Leader Snoke and Captain Phasma, respectively.
Each actor talked about who their favorite villain grew up to be. Andy Serkis has confessed that Christopher Lee’s Dracula was the one he remembers the most, as it both captivated and scared him. In addition, she confessed that she always wanted to be like him. Veteran Star Wars actor Ian McDiarmid agreed with Andy Serkis in choosing his childhood villain. Christopher Lee was also his favorite villain when he was young.
On the other hand, Gwendoline Christie revealed that her favorite villain is from the movie “101 Dalmatians”: I remember being absolutely terrified of Cruella de Vil.
During the panel, the actors discussed the characters they played in the sequel trilogy. Andy Serkis revealed: I was fascinated by the character when we started talking about it with JJ Abrams. I felt like Snoke was the Supreme Leader and had all this power, but he was carrying a huge amount of pain associated with his deformity and trying to carve out his own identity as a clone.
On the other hand, Gwendoline Christie said she immediately liked the idea of playing Captain Phasma. She loved the idea of a female soldier and the opportunity to play a ruthless woman.
Without a doubt, the “Villains of the Sequel Trilogy” panel was one of the most exciting and entertaining at the entire Star Wars Celebration 2023 event in London. May the force be with you!
