Although it is one of the programs most loved by Latin American audiences over the years, many fans do not know things about “El Chavo del 8”, such as why Quico wore navy or who Chavito’s mother was .
In the case of this second mystery, Roberto Gómez Bolaños never explicitly said who were the relatives of the boy who lived in apartment 8 of La Vecindad and was always inside a barrel.
However, since all the shows he created and their characters were interconnected, there are details and dialogues that when combined reveal more about Chavo and his past, such as the identity of his mother.

Who was the mother of ‘Chavo del 8’? The theory is associated with Don Ramón
Just as it was discovered what Mr. Barriga actually did besides collecting rent, by watching other programs and books written by Chespirito you can also get to know who Chavo’s mother would be.
In the book “El diario del Chavo del 8” from 1995, Gómez Bolaños described many things about his character, such as his real name and that his mother was a woman who dropped him off at kindergarten every day to go to work .
Also, apparently in some chapters, it is known that his mother disappeared shortly after El Chavo was born, so when the facts are put together, a theory emerges that suggests his mother was Don Ramón’s wife.
According to the theory, Chavo’s mother spent a few years alone after having her baby and then fell in love with Don Ramón, even in a sketch of “Los supergenios de la mesa cuadrada” the woman makes an appearance.
There you can see Don Ramon, before he lived in La Vecindad, making some shoes and his wife (played by María Antonieta de las Nieves) scolded him for taking too long and said that her mother warned her not to marry him .
Even in that scene, the shoes Don Ramón makes are the same ones he gives Chavo in a chapter that shows a flashback of when the boy arrived at La Vecindad and was barefoot.
La Chilindrina would be Chavo’s sister, but no one knows because the woman left Chavo before she met Don Ramón and, as explained in the chapter “Don Ramón Leaves La Vecindad” in 1977, died when the girl was born.
Grief-stricken, Don Ramón moved with his newborn and thus arrived at La Vecindad, where he took it upon himself to raise La Chilindrina, not knowing that his late wife had a son before.
Also in the episode “Don Ramón boxer” from 1974, inside his apartment in La Vecindad you can see a photo of his wedding, where he is embraced by his wife, who is the mother of Chilindrina and also of Chavo.
This theory is also supported by what has been said Carlos Villagrán, who assured that Chavo was not the main character of the program, but the whole story revolves around Don Ramón.
Another theory suggests that Chimoltrufia is the mother of Chavo del 8
Another of the most debated theories over the decades about Chavo’s mother is that she could be La Chimoltrufia (Florinda Meza), who appeared in “Los Caquitos” and coincides with what was described about the child’s mother.
The theory goes that, being so ignorant and with a low income, Chimoltrufia left her son at the kindergarten so that he could be cared for there and have a better life than she and her husband Botijas could give him.
