The announcement of the series came as no surprise given that the deal between Warner Bros. discovery and author JK Rowling was already leaked last week. Rowling will executive produce this new production, described as a ‘decade-long’ series, faithful to the world’s best-selling books.
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, and Casey Bloys, President and CEO of Content at HBO & Max, commented on the announcement of the new production of Original Max:
My wife and I read (the Harry Potter books) to each of our three children… It’s really exciting, for ten years running, people will see Harry Potter on HBO; I mean, it’s really something.
David Zaslav
We are delighted to offer the public the opportunity to experience Hogwarts in a whole new way. Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear that there is an enduring love and thirst for the wizarding world. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and JK Rowling, this new original Max series will delve into each of the iconic books fans have continued to enjoy over the years.
Casey Bloys
JK Rowling herself also commented on the announcement:
Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to being a part of this new adaptation that will allow for a degree of depth and detail only possible in a long-running television series.
JK Rowling
It hasn’t been revealed when the series will hit streaming, nor have production details like directors, showrunners, and cast.
