The X-Men celebrate 60 years by revisiting one of their most important stories

The X-Men celebrate 60 years by returning to Days of Future Past, a classic storyline that expanded science fiction in the comics of the Marvel group

When the X-Men was launched in 1963, literature, cinema and comics returned with new stories and science fiction concepts. And while the adventures of mutants always have a social background due to their difference from “normal” humans, the Children of the Atom have become famous for their complex science fiction. And one of the storylines that most contributed to this will be revisited to celebrate 60 years of the group created by Stan Lee Jack Kirby up wonder.

Originally released in 1981, Days of a forgotten future lays its foundations science fiction, along with the Phoenix Saga. The story was told in two editions, The Mysterious X-Men #141 AND #142, and revolves around a future where mutants have been hunted almost to extinction. The storyline shocked by showing several beloved characters buried and Wolverine, at the height of his popularity, wiped off the map by a sentry.

The comic not only influenced the tone of X-Men stories for years to come, but also became a point of reference for other work. TerminatorIn James Cameronit was released three years later Days of a forgotten future and it has basically the same premise: a warrior from the future returns to the present to try to change reality.

Days of a forgotten future there was also a Fox Films stage adaptation, by Bryan Singer. But it can’t be said that the conversion lived up to the original work by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, which, to this day, is acclaimed by fans and new readers alike.

What will the new episode of one of the most important X-Men stories be like?

Well then, X-Men: Days of Future Past – Judgment Day is part of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the X-Men. As you can see from the title, the same plot alternate future as Days of a forgotten future will be revisited, this time by veteran writer Mark Guggenheim and artist Manuel García.

The idea, according to the authors, is to expand the story told in the past of Days of a forgotten future, exploring the fate of many mutants that weren’t seen in the original publication. “My goal with this story is to fill in some missing gaps in the thirty-year span that Kate Pryde summed up in just four panels at the time,” says Guggenheim. “No prior familiarity with the original story will be necessary. The end result is an event that feels like X-Men history to end all X-Men history. At least, that’s what we’re aiming for!”

X-Men: Days of Future Past – Doomsday #1 will go on sale on July 12 in overseas stores.
