Its dark and brooding atmosphere may remind you of Ozark. And that’s okay, because the new Netflix mini-series Florida Man reunites part of the creative team of the program, which is considered one of the best original series produced by the platform!
Florida Man refers to an American expression used in the news sections of American newspapers to refer to unthinkable acts committed by men living in Florida. Recently, the expression has also been applied to President Donald Trump, who lives in Palm Beach, Florida.
Created by screenwriter Donald Todd, this new mini-series is notably produced by Jason Bateman, lead actor of Ozark (which he produced but also directed several episodes). The story follows the (mis)adventures of a private detective who is deployed to Florida to track down the ex-girlfriend of a powerful mobster from Philadelphia.
A thriller with an absurd tone that evokes the cinema of the Coen brothers, but also the world of Thomas Pynchon’s novels, Florida Man brings together a wonderful headliner cast, including Edgar Ramírez in the title role, but also Anthony LaPaglia, who marks his excellent return to the detective series after the outstanding issue of FBI : Missing Persons, who exposed it to the general public.
Note that Florida Man is being released in the unusual form of a miniseries consisting of seven episodes (the norm is more like eight or ten). A choice explained by the freedom given by Netflix to the designers of the program, Jason Bateman said that he worked without restrictions, the platform preferred to bet on the quality of the series to generate a positive word with its subscribers!
Seven episodes of the detective mini-series Florida Man are now available exclusively on Netflix.
