What a prospect it will be for Noemi Merlant! 2023 began with the release of his first American film, in which he plays Cate Blanchett (Tár by Todd Field, released on January 25 and which will be available on DVD-VOD at the end of May), and then Cesar. He is the headliner of Soul Sisters with Benjamin Voisin, which was released yesterday, Wednesday, April 12th.
Noemi Merlant will soon face two of the biggest challenges of her career: this summer she will make her second feature film as director and screenwriter, Les Femmes au balcon.
Teaming up with Celine Sciamma in the script
And surprise, the film was written in collaboration with Celine Sciamma, thus marking the union of the director and screenwriter of Portrait of a Young Girl Under Fire, and one of the main performers of the film! The two had already met for Jacques Audiard’s Les Olympiades, with Celine Schiamm collaborating on the script.
The woman on the balcony is scheduled to be filmed this summer. Noemi Merlant agreed to say a few words about the feature film during this podcast interview. He will star alongside Suheila Yacoub (Between the Waves, Dune 2) and Sanda Codreanus. The latter was one of the main actors in his first feature film, Mi Iubita mon amour.
The film presents itself as “Bloody comedy, with a mixture of genres, in a somewhat supernatural setting, with a dangerous game between men and women. We are three friends, three wives, three lovers in terms of closeness. It’s a choral film, almost behind closed doors. We are really into gore, comedy, absurdity“, as he described some time ago in the columns rocks.
Another major challenge in Noemi Merlant’s perspective: she will be Audrey Divan’s iconic Emanuela! Adapted from Emmanuel Arsani’s sultry novel, this new feature film delivers a fresh, updated take on the work. Audrey Divan will direct, script written in collaboration with Rebecca Zlotowski. Filming will begin next September in Hong Kong. The film will be shot in English.
