The Prime Video reality show hits the streaming catalog on April 14.
The reality show Caravana das Drags arrives on Prime Video next Friday, April 14. Hosted by Xuxa Meneghel and Ikaro Kadoshi, the program features a Brazilian drag queen contest in a traveling format, towards the title of Ruler of the Caravan and the prize of R$ 150,000.
In all, the project went through 8 states, as many main episodes – about 45 minutes -, in addition to the cast reunion chapter. Exploiting the wonders of the mainland, the project follows a path full of stories, particularities about the life of artists and, moreover, is permeated by cultural diversity.
In an interview with I love cinemaXuxa, known for raising the LGBTQIAP+ flag at various points in her life and career, has addressed the great learnings and lessons the attraction has provided for her.
“We have a lot to learn, but what surprises me and surprised me about this, is not only what I was able to take from Ikaro, but from the girls, you know? The stories of each one,” said the presenter who cultivates the dream of conduct a program in this style a few years ago.
“There was one person who had been there for a long time [na estrada], who came from the 80s, 90s. There were new people who were just starting out, but many of them had one thing in common: the prejudice generated around them, whether through family, friends or religious prejudice. And that destabilized me,” the artist explained about the highlight moments of the reality show, where participants share exciting stories about their trajectories.
OR I love cinema had access to the opening chapter of the program and there is an impressive moment in which there is the first meeting between the eternal Queen of Baixinhos and the group formed by Chandelly Kidman, Desiree Beck, Enme, Frimes, Gaia from Brazil, Elena Borgys, Morgante, crow creole, Robert Moon AND Slovakia. During these first few minutes of the season, audiences get to know the contestants better, not only about their personal experiences as drag queens, but also moments where everyone shines during challenges and performances.
Still on the learning gained while filming Carava nas Drags, Xuxa highlights how the show should impact not only people related to LGBTQIAP+ causes, but also the audience who are unaware of the issues of the queer community.
“What I can say is the following: even though I raised this flag a long time ago, I had a lot to learn. Imagine who has never raised it,” he reflects. “Imagine how much people are not going to learn and how much they have to learn. If I have so much ahead of me, so much ground to go and learn, I think there will be a lot of people who will see and hear and say, “Wow!
The presenter also reiterates her belief in art-based change. “I think it’s going to be a real change, almost a habit, not just a change of thinking. Because you have to change the habits of how you’re going to talk to people, how you’re going to show and demonstrate respect for these people and these artists.”
During the interview, in unison with Ikaro e Malu, head of Brazilian original content at Amazon Studios, Xuxa highlighted the beauty of featuring drag art from other fields, places, cultures and profiles.
“Everything around is really cool: all of Brazil, the language of the circus, the language of drag art in one reality,” he said, adding that money wasn’t really the focus queens, but the trajectory, “the stories, the achievements, the discoveries, the prejudices that are overturned, the solutions to some problems”, among other points. He finishes, “I hope people see him with that look too.”
Caravana das Drags will premiere on April 14 on Prime Video. With weekly episodes, the season ends on May 26.
