The magical world of Harry Potter is gaining popularity again after the “Fantastic Beasts” movies, the release of the video game “Hogwarts Legacy” and now with a new series that will tell the story of the books.
This production comes from Warner Bros. Discovery and its strategy to increase original content on its Max (formerly HBO Max) streaming platform.
Officially announced with a short video on April 12, 2023, the series promises to be a new era for Potterheads (as fans of the series are called) and an introduction to the wizarding world for a whole new generation.

The creation of the series responds by capitalizing on the subsequent success of the films, as have other television productions that appear to be inspired by the world of Hogwarts, such as “Wednesday,” which is said to have copied “Harry Potter.” .
While not many details have been released about the series’ cast, release date or budget, in a statement Warner Bros. Discovery reported that the new “Harry Potter” series is being planned as a long-term project.
The company has assured that the series will last 10 years, as the stories of the 7 Harry Potter books written by JK Rowling will be adapted in great detail and at length.
As Deadline covered a launch event for the Max platform, HBO President & CEO & Max Content Casey Bloys assured that the series will be the closest adaptation to the books.
In addition, it was reported that the program will have a new cast playing the iconic characters of the series, so appearances by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are almost ruled out.
For this reason it is expected that, being a much more faithful adaptation, the characters of “Harry Potter” are as described in the books and not as some of the actors who played them in the movies.

While the series was rumored to have 7 seasons (one for each book), according to what Bloys said about the 10-year run, it’s possible that some seasons span one or more books.
And despite being embroiled in controversy over comments against the transgender community for a few years now, author JK Rowling will be executive producing the new series.
At the moment, the series is only in production and no auditions have been held with acting agencies, so it is expected to arrive in late 2025 or until 2026.
