“For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a gangster”. This sentence which opens Les Affranchis may well follow the series which concerns us today. Produced by Mark Wahlberg and Martin Scorsese, among others, this is Boardwalk Empire, which aired from 2010 to 2014 on HBO.
If you have Warner Pass, the series is available on the Prime Video platform. Warner Pass costs €9.99 per month to add to your €6.99 Amazon Prime subscription. Otherwise, the integral is readily available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Why should you catch up?
Already because, unlike many series, Boardwalk Empire had the ending it wanted, after five seasons it presented us with the evolution of the city of Atlantic City and “Nucky” Thompson, played by Steve Buscemi. We meet many faces who have become famous, such as Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Stephen Graham and Jack Huston, and we find others who are already familiar, such as Michael Stuhlbarg or Michael K. Williams.

The pilot is directed by Martin Scorsese himself. It follows the career of Republican Party Treasurer Nucky Thompson in the 1920s and the path he takes in the shadows of Atlantic City. Obviously, over the seasons, rivals and unfortunate partnerships erode his strong position.
The series follows not only the “gang” of Nucky Thompson, but also the appearance of Al Capone in Chicago, Lucky Luciano or even (in the 4th season) J. Edgar Hoover’s arrival at the head of what would become the FBI. .

Feeding the corrupt elite
In addition to the flawless recreation of 1920s costumes and sets, the series impresses visually and bears the mark of its creator Terence Winter (producer of The Sopranos) with a psychological exploration of Nuck’s character and brilliant intertwining storylines.
A real piece of history highlighted by the Nucky Thompson family that is not smooth sailing. To catch up absolutely.
