‘The Squid Game’: Netflix has launched the United States version and wants David Fincher!

For now there is nothing official.

At the moment it’s all rumours. Netflix could be developing a new US version of its hit series ‘The Squid Game’, and it seems that he already has someone in mind to direct the series. Apparently, according to various industry media, the company is very interested in having director David Fincher take on the project.

It should come as no surprise that Netflix wants to continue to capitalize on the massive success of ‘The Squid Game’, one of Netflix’s best series. The Korean series became an overnight sensation since its initial premiere in September 2021, with the first season of nine episodes racking up 1.65 billion hours of viewing in just four weeks, thus becoming the most watched Netflix series of all time. In addition to its impressive audience numbers, ‘The Squid Game’ was also widely praised by critics and audiences alike.

Created, written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, ‘Squid Game’, its English title, follows contestants who, in debt or with serious financial problems, get into some twisted tests in which players participate in various children’s games where losing means death. The last player standing wins a cash prize of 45.6 billion South Korean won, about $35 million. Netflix officially renewed ‘The Squid Game’ for a second season in January 2022, and filming is expected to begin this summer. Meanwhile, the company is currently working on ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’, a reality series based on Hwang’s show in which real people compete for a real cash prize, and without risking their lives, of course.

Although Netflixwe insist, has not confirmed if an American ‘Squid game’ is in the works, the streamer has already done remakes of existing series. Our most famous series, ‘La Casa de Papel’, another unprecedented example and one of its most addictive series, had a Korean version in 2022, ‘La Casa de Papel: Korea’, with a new cast, but the same characters and history.

Returning to the version of ‘The Squid Game’ in the United States, it remains to be seen if it is carried out and if Fincher is in charge of the project. The filmmaker made his debut as a feature film director with ‘Alien 3’ in 1992. He later directed such acclaimed films as ‘Seven’ (1995), ‘Fight Club’ (1999), ‘Zodiac’ (2007), ‘The social network’ (2010), ‘Millennium: men who did not love women’ (2011) or ‘Lost’ (2014), among others. His most recent film, ‘Mank’, was a Netflix production that debuted on the platform in 2020 and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, of which he won two. His new film, ‘The Killer’, will also arrive on Netflix next November.
