Avengers 3 has 45 minutes of deleted scenes and we know what’s in it!

In 2018, just a month before the release of Avengers: Infinity War, an entire part of the film was pulled. 45 minutes filmed but never used revealed by Marvel’s big villain in his quest for the Infinity Stone.

The revelation came from Jim Starlin, creator of Thanos for the comics, and here’s what he told the podcast Pure mint condition :

About a month before the movie came out, I got an email or message from Joe saying that “45 minutes of Thanos was cut at the start of Infinity War.”

And Starlin gave us a few more details about the content of the scene and why it didn’t make it to the filming stage:

“There was a big scene where he retrieves the first stone that was taken out. They shot it, but they didn’t want to spend money on special effects and they didn’t want the movie to be longer than the second one. He didn’t realize it was going to be such a big hit.”

This missing footage happened on Xandar. In the finished film, it is briefly summarized from Thor’s line addressed to the Guardians of the Galaxy: “Thanos already has the power stone because he stole it a week ago when he destroyed Kandar.”

At the time, Guardians didn’t respond to this announcement, which is a bit surprising considering that the plots of their two solo films were heavily involved in this planet and in particular the Nova Corps Order (including characters played by John S. Reilly and Glenn Close). At this point in the MCU, we don’t know if they’re alive or dead.

The Battle of Kandar could have been a monument to the action, but being extended by 45 minutes would have really pushed Infinity War to 3:21 rather than extending its last game. However, if these parts shot but not developed with special effects were one day edited to be revealed to the general public in an extended version, there is no doubt that Avengers 3 would once again be a huge success worldwide.

Interested in one day witnessing the brutal destruction of Kandar by the almighty Thanos? Does 45 minutes make a feature film too long for your taste? Your keyboards!
