Zanetti protagonist at the inauguration of the Brazil Gymnastics Trophy

The competition started this Thursday (13), in Aracaju; gymnast scored 14,700 on the rings

In the first day of competitions of the Brazil Artistic Gymnastics Trophy, last Thursday (13), in Aracaju, the highlight was Arthur Zanetti. Olympic champion in 2012 and runner-up in 2016, he represented Agith, of São Caetano, and finished first in the rings, with 14,700.

Zanetti nonetheless advanced to sixth on the floor, a fixture he usually competes in to help his team in domestic competitions. He will participate again in the qualifying phase of the jump, this Friday (14).

Zanetti returned to racing for the first time since the Pan American Championship, held in Rio de Janeiro, in July last year. Struck by a virus, the athlete from Sao Paulo did not participate in the World Cup in Liverpool.

“I am returning to racing now. This Brazil Trophy is very important, because it serves as a benchmark for us. We present our series in a real situation, for the referees, and then we can evaluate what we need to improve. And the Technical Committee of the Selection also needs to observe the athletes, so that they begin to form the team for the World Cup (in Antwerp, from the end of September). It is this World Cup that will decide our lives, thinking about the Olympic Games,” said the athlete, who said he felt good during the competition.

“Physically I felt really good. A little nervous on the ground. I’m not in the rings anymore, it’s quiet. Solo and jumping still give me some anxiety, especially because of this time without competing. But I enjoyed my tests. On the field I know what I need to do to reach my goal, to be close to 14,000 (he got 13,300), my goal in this competition,” she added.

Also doing well this Thursday was Vinicius Blackman, from the East Sector. The Federal District athlete usually shines in national competitions on the pommel horse. He qualified first for the final with 13.050.

Another star who joined the gym was Jade Barbosa, from Flamengo. The medalist at the 2007 World Championships (bronze in individual overall) and 2010 (jumping) experienced knee instability and did not participate in the Pan American Championships and the World Championships in Liverpool last year.

The 31-year-old athlete, who dreams of participating in the Paris Games, which would be her last Olympics, finished fourth in the uneven bars (12.433), a device dominated by her teammate, Lorrane Oliveira (13.333). Flávia Saraiva, who felt her right ankle during the World Cup in Liverpool, is also returning to competition. She, in turn, managed to take sixth place in the asymmetrical (12.133).
