A young James Bond? Here’s why it never happened, and why Daniel Craig was hired

Today, Daniel Craig in his James Bond costume is obvious. However, initially, the production of the famous franchise did not have the British in mind at all, and for good reason: it was looking for very young faces, in their twenties, to portray Agent 007 in Casino Royale.

timeRecent interview with RadioTimesCasting director Debbie McWilliams, a key behind-the-scenes figure in the spy saga since she held the position in 1981, explained why she suddenly decided to cast a slightly older actor.

“When we started casting for Casino Royale, there was a slightly different desire”– says the British. “We saw a lot of young actors, but we realized that they didn’t have the maturity, experience and mental capacity to do it all.

“Here, it’s not just about taking on a role, playing James Bond is a big responsibility”Debbie McWilliams continues. Therefore, we decided to reject this idea and start from scratch.

So start from scratch with casting involving actors with more bottles. It’s thirty-something Daniel Craig who hits the jackpot with a run of five feature films spanning fifteen years.
