People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Honorary Board member James Cromwell (Estate) helped rescue a pig that fell from a transport truck on its way to a facility where it would be fattened for slaughter.
As Deadline reports, the little pig was named “Babe” after the 1995 film Babe, the Pig Became a Shepherd. In the iconic film, James Cromwell plays Arthur Hoggett, a man who takes care of the farm where Baby thrives. The role also inspired him to become a vegan.
Although PETA says that pigs are funny, friendly, sensitive and intelligent animals, James Cromwell released a statement about saving the little animal, which will be sent to the Indraloka Animal Shelter in Dalton, Pennsylvania.
Privileged to witness and experience the intelligence and curiosity of pigs while filming Baby, I got the chance to breathe new life into the life of a real Baby. All pigs deserve to live in a sanctuary, to choose when to have fun, where to feed and how to spend their time.
In the following tweet posted by PETA, we see the actress getting to know the new babe with an interlaced screen:
