Wahhh! Super Mario Bros. Take the stars! The animated film from Illumination studios continues its momentum, collecting an additional $87 million in its second weekend in US theaters. Thus, the film collects 347.8 million in the US box office and has 678 million green tickets internationally.
This makes the feature film adapted from a Nintendo video game the biggest hit of 2023 ahead of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($473.5 million) and Chinese films The Wandering Earth 2 ($604 million) and Full River Red. Yimou and his $673.5 million.
But Mario and Luigi achieve another success: Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic’s film becomes the highest-grossing video game adaptation in film history, ahead of Warcraft and its $439 million internationally and Pokémon, Detective Pikachu and its $433 million!
