On the eve of the DC movie reboot, James Gunn has revealed why Henry Cavill can’t continue as Superman, and the Man of Steel’s new suit could give an idea of what the director and head of DC Studios is looking for.
And since last year Henry Cavill said goodbye to Superman with a touching message, speculation about the new film of the last son of Krypton has not stopped.

DC unveils a new electric suit for Superman
In which more things are mentioned about the new movie ‘Superman: Legacy’, in the TV part ‘Superman and Lois’ is in its third season and in the comics the mantle passed from Clark Kent to his son Jon Kent.
And it is precisely with the son of Superman where the superhero has shown great changes, since Jon has not only learned what it means to wear the shield and the red cape, but he has also developed new powers and a different outfit.
Although previews of Jon Kent’s new suit as The Man of Steel have been showing since October 2022, his big debut finally came in Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent #2 in April 2023.
In the comic, Jon’s electrical powers suddenly manifest and change the color of his suit to electric blue, in addition to his eyes being energized and turning white.
This new suit designed by Dan Mora is an homage and reference to the one the character had in 1997, where Kal-El’s powers caused him to split into two electric versions, one with a red suit and the other with a blue .
His electrical powers and split into two beings didn’t last long and for 1998’s ‘Superman Forever’ #1 the Man of Steel returned to his normal self and by now the appearance and costume have returned to his son.
The comic book story written by Tom Taylor and drawn by Clayton Henry centers on the multiverse, where versions of the Man of Steel are being killed and Val-Zod (Superman from Earth-2) believes Jon Kent can save them all.
In the story he is revealed to be the evil version of the Man of Steel, Ultraman, who kills Kal-El’s variants. However, in the second issue, Superman from the ‘Injustice’ universe is seen killing Ultraman.
In “Injustice” Superman becomes an evil dictator after the Joker tricks Clark into killing Lois Lane and her unborn child, which also sets off a nuclear bomb that destroys all of Metropolis.
What does the new suit mean for the next Superman movie?
While little is known about James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy,” which will be the first in DC’s new Cinematic Universe, the director is writing the script and plans to hit theaters in 2025.
Since Gunn’s Superman will be young and in his early years as a superhero, it’s almost impossible for Jon Kent to show up with his electrical powers, so they could manifest on Clark first.
The “Superman: Legacy” movie could highlight Kal-El’s energy-based powers and thus set him apart from previous “live-action” renditions of the character.
