Planning and Budget Minister Simone Tebet said on Tuesday that he believes he will accompany President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Finance Minister Fernando Haddad in presenting the new fiscal framework to Congress.
“In the beginning it’s the three of us, but we have very busy schedules, so if we intersect, one fulfills a mission… but I think it’s possible to keep up,” Tebet told reporters in Brasilia.
The minister maintained the expectation that the text of the proposed tax rule – which prevents federal expenditure from growing more than revenue – will be delivered to Congress after Lula’s meeting with the governors to discuss safety in schools, probably starting from noon.
According to Tebet, “at no time” did the government consider including the parameters of the fiscal framework in the ordinary law, but in a supplementary bill. He said there is a “way out” in the text to close the accounts in 2026, but did not provide details.
“There is one result for 2026 which is another one that I can’t say now, that will be in the text and then it will be very clear in relation to what I’m talking about,” he said.
