Prime Video: The new AI promises clearer audio

Surely you were watching a movie and could not hear the voices of the characters properly and had to adjust the sound with the remote control. A new Prime Video feature promises to put an end to this situation, highlighting the audio of character voices.

Dialogue Boost mode can be activated on whichever device the user is watching Prime Video and will allow “boost the volume of the dialogue in relation to the background music and effects,” Amazon said in a blog post.

The feature launched globally today (18th) for select Amazon Originals exclusive titles such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The wonderful Mrs. Maisel, beautiful boy AND The big sick. The company says the option will also be added to more products later this year.

Initially, the mode was meant to cater for the needs of the hard of hearing, but it can be used by anyone who wants to make dialogue stand out.

At Prime Video, we are committed to creating an inclusive, fair and enjoyable streaming experience for all of our customers. By growing and leveraging our technology resources to create industry-first innovations like Dialogue Boost, we’re taking another step toward creating a more accessible streaming experience.

Dialogue Boost uses artificial intelligence to analyze the original audio in content and identify parts where hearing dialogue may be more difficult due to soundtrack or special effects. With AI it is possible to increase only the volume of the voice, instead of performing a general amplification.

The feature can be accessed in the audio and subtitle menu, where the audio tracks “English Dialogue Boost: Medium” and “English Dialogue Boost: High” will appear.
