Ethan Coen has a new Drive-Away Dolls movie, and it’s coming later this year

For decades, the Coen brothers have been one of the brightest directorial duos, and although they haven’t made a film together since the 2018 Western anthology. The ballad of Buster ScruggsThey have since explored some solo projects. First came the black and white version of Joel Coen. The Tragedy of Macbeth. And now it’s Ethan’s turn to go solo after last year’s documentary. Jerry Lee Lewis: Problems in mind – has a new narrative film due out later this year, titled dolls to drive.

The film is a road comedy starring Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan (dynamite in both blockers AND Gallery of broken hearts) in the Driver’s Seat – Play as friends who go on a road trip together after one of them breaks up with his girlfriend. Along the way, they encounter criminals who divert their journey in another direction. Coen has assembled a great cast for this one, which also includes Pedro Pascal, Beanie Feldstein, Matt Damon, Colman Domingo and Bill Camp. Coen co-wrote the screenplay with Tricia Cooke.

Best of all, you don’t have to wait too long: The film hits US screens on September 22, and hopefully won’t be delayed this side of the Atlantic. While there is an expectation, I hope it finds its way onto the festival circuit as well. Now, when will the director’s dream team meet again?
