General Gonçalves Dias has resigned as prime minister of the Office for Institutional Security (GSI) of the Presidency of the Republic after a video revealed this Wednesday (19) showing him inside the Planalto Palace during the invasion of the January 8 coup.
According to the communication secretariat, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has already accepted his resignation. Dias is the prime minister to leave the government in the third term of the PT.
The general’s resignation was made the same day videos of the police investigation – which were being held in secrecy – were revealed by CNN. The images show Dias and several portfolio officials circulating inside the Planalto Palace, on the day supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Three Powers.
Also, one of the employees talks to the intruders and greets them. The work of the GSI during the demonstrations considered to lead to a coup has been the object of criticism.
In a note, the GSI informs that the recording shows “the action of the security agents which was, at first, in the sense of clearing the fourth and third floors of Palazzo Planalto, concentrating the demonstrators on the second floor, where, after waiting for the reinforcement of the PM/DF shock team, it was possible to arrest them”.
In an interview with TV Globo, Dias assured that he was there to remove the vandals and reiterated that his image was taken out of context.
According to the Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency of the Republic, all the subjects involved in the criminal acts of 8 January, civil or military, have been identified by the Federal Police and presented to the Public Prosecutor and the Judiciary. .
