After appearing in the United States in the TV series The Green Hornet, Bruce Lee returns to China determined to pursue an acting career. On the spot, he was immediately hired by producer Raymond Chow of the humble Golden Harvest studio.
After their first collaboration on Big Boss, which was released in 1971 to great success, the two men worked together again on La Fureur de Vaincre. Grossing more than ten times its original budget worldwide, the film catapulted Bruce Lee to international stardom.
In the same year, the latter decided to multiply hats on his third feature film La Fureur du dragon. A screenwriter, director and producer at the same time, he also slips into the shoes of the main character, Tang Lung, whose fighting skills enable him to fend off thugs who attack a Chinese restaurant owner in Rome.
The martial arts film classic Wrath of the Dragon is especially notable for its humor, as well as for the final fight scene between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in the Coliseum. Filmed in four days, this iconic scene became a symbol of the passing of the torch between the man nicknamed “Little Dragon” and his on-screen opponent, then a karate champion, who became known to the general public.
When it came out in 1972, Wrath of the Dragon It grossed around $130 million worldwide – a thousand times its production budget! In France, it totals more than 4 million admissions.
