In the 80s and 90s, there were several celebrities who started to shine. One of them was Nicolas Cage thanks to his natural appeal, talent and charisma that captivated the audience.
The tapes in which he participated became an immediate success and collected millions of dollars such as “60 seconds”, “An angel in love”, “Contracara” or “8 mm”, to name only a few.
Unfortunately, his career was immediately affected after severe financial problems that almost led him to bankruptcy, and in recent years he has worked on various projects to regain the attention of the public.
For a few days now, Cage has been promoting his latest feature film called ‘Renfield’, where he plays Dracula himself, who has a young servant under his watch to do all his bidding. However, after centuries of servitude, he will try to get rid of his power to live a peaceful life away from that vampire that torments him every moment.
Nicolas Cage ate live cockroaches for ‘Vampire’s Kiss’
During an interview held on April 14 for the portal “Yahoo! Fun’, the actor revealed that in a scene from ‘Renfield’ his partner, Nicholas Houlthe is supposed to eat cockroaches and although these are false, it made him remember a similar anecdote he experienced in the past.
It turns out that it all happened in 1988 when he was filming ‘Vampire’s Kiss’ where he played a man named Peter Loew who believed he had become a vampire after supposedly being bitten by one and to convince himself he put on fake fangs and started harassing women.
In one part of the film, the protagonist sees a cockroach running onto his stove, picks it up and puts it in his mouth as if it were another sandwich.
For years it was believed that the animal was not real, but Cage explained that it was alive and ate not just one, but two, which was one of the saddest moments of his career.
According to the well-known 59-year-old actor, this was his idea, since in the original script he had to eat a raw egg. However, he thought that the insect would promote morbidity in the viewers.
Although the first take was perfect, “Vampire’s Kiss” director Robert Bierman asked him to redo it one more time, so he had to eat a second cockroach and did it without breeding like a pro.
Just like many actors who reveal secrets from their past jobs, Cage gave a very strange fact to moviegoers, who will surely never look at the scene the same way again after learning the reality behind it.
