About 4,000 positions were eliminated that week, part of mass layoffs announced in March.
On Wednesday (April 18), Meta began laying off employees with technical positions within the company.
WHAT WAS THERE? The information was given by CNBC and confirmed by a Meta spokesperson.
Approximately 4,000 layoffs, part of the second wave of 10,000 layoffs announced in March, were made this week. The first, December 2022affected 11,000 employees.
For the first time, the layoffs affected technical and product positions, such as engineers and programmers.
A fired employee provided more details to CNBC, anonymously, of the next steps of the goal. The next round of layoffs is scheduled for early May and is expected to affect administrative positions such as finance, legal and human resources.
BALANCE. Overall, Meta’s two collective layoffs reduced the workforce by 21,000.
The mass layoffs are part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s austerity plan, which set 2023 as the “Year of Efficiency”. The goal is to reverse the fusion of the market value of Meta and the slowdown of the segmented advertising business.
