“It’s finished!” : Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow will no longer work for Marvel

Scarlett Johansson was recently a guest on “The Goop Podcast” hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow, giving the two actresses a chance to reflect on their shared Marvel experience.

As you may know, Gwyneth Paltrow helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man in 2008 as Pepper Potts, which she reprized in two Iron Man sequels as well as several Avengers. Scarlett Johansson, meanwhile, made her MCU debut in 2010 as Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Facing each other on the set of the movie.

People ask me, ‘Is it true that you and Scarlett Johansson didn’t have fun on Iron Man?Gwyneth Paltrow recalls. But Scarlett Johansson is adamant:

You were very good to me in this movie. I was so petrified. You were so kind to me! You could have been horrible. I went out of my comfort zone in this movie. I have never done anything like this before. Plus, you’ve made such deep friendships.

Gwyneth Paltrow then told her partner how “thrilled” everyone was to have him join them, adding that she was happy to have another woman around.

You were telling me that. Then I experienced it later. When I did The Avengers, I was one of the few… it was like one big sausage sizzle party!– said Scarlett Johansson.

A sentiment shared by Gwyneth Paltrow while filming the first Iron Man.

It was fun to be in something that resonated so deeply with people culturally. I have never been in such a successful franchise. It was new to me.

Wonder of the future?

The actors also talked about whether or not their future will be in the new Marvel movies. To recall, Scarlett Johansson’s character was killed off in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, but returned for 2021’s Black Widow, a standalone prequel film. For the latter, his time in the skin of Natalia Romanov is over.

I finished it. The chapter is over. I did everything I had to do. Plus, coming back and playing a character over and over again for over a decade is a unique experience.

When Scarlett Johansson asked Gwyneth Paltrow if she was done with the Marvel movies, Paltrow replied:I think so. I mean, I’m not dead to be asked all the time.

I think you might come back at some pointJohansson joked.

really ? 64 year old Pepper Potts? How amazing!– answered his interlocutor.

Scarlett Johansson added:100% it will be. I can see it. They will never let you go. Take off your wig, baby!

Gwyneth Paltrow has already raised the issue of the release of Avengers: Endgame. The Oscar-winning actor then told Variety that his Marvel days were likely numbered. “I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all at this point. I feel very lucky that I did it because they convinced me. I was making friends Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience to do the first Iron Man and then see how important it became to the fans.

Given the “multi-faceted” nature of the MCU, nothing is out of the question, but the actors seem to be doing well and truly with their characters.
