Director Akiva Schaefer, whose film “Tic et Tac: Les Rangers du risque” is now available on Disney +, talked about the difficulties of creating a world by combining animation and live action!
AlloCiné: How did you come up with the idea of re-launching the adventures of Tic et Tac?
Akiva Schaefer (director of the movie Tic et Tac: Les Rangers du risque): I grew up with the TV series of the 90s. I also loved the adventures of La Bande à Picsou. In 2018, Disney sent me a script that looked very much like our script. I was intrigued by the idea that Tiki and Taki have been apart for thirty years. I wanted them to experience new adventures and this time they are looking for a friend who has disappeared into the world of live action like Who Framed Roger Rabbit ?.
What was your approach to re-inventing these two characters?
I think you will like this angry but charming couple created by Tik and Taki. This is a duo that reminds me of Jack Lemon and Walter Mathew in the movie Strange Couple. Fans of both characters will find themselves there and feel at home in a familiar place. Also, I think blending in with the real world makes the film more interesting.
Technically, the real challenge for me was juggling the animated part and the live action part. As if shooting two different movies at the same time! I believe we have managed to make a film that will amaze you both visually and creatively. Not to mention that we have funny cameos in this movie like Roger the Rabbit for example.
Were you trying to solve a specific topic with this family entertainment movie?
This is a movie that you will love first and foremost. But if you also see the message that friendship is the most important thing there is, beyond personal interests, I think it will also be good. My goal with this film is to entertain and forget the negative aspects of the world in which we live. I hope we have succeeded.
