The premiere is already very close to the new film ‘The Little Mermaid’ and they have been slowly introducing their characters and who plays them. Such is the case with Ariel’s (Halle Bailey) siblings who will also appear in the ‘live action’.
But, as in the case of the protagonist, her six sisters in the Disney film will have some changes from their animated counterparts, since their image and even their names will not be the same.
We already know what Ariel’s sisters look like in ‘The Little Mermaid’
Thanks to official images on the Target store website, official Disney toys and art books, it has been revealed what Ariel’s sisters will look like in ‘The Little Mermaid’.
While in the animated version of ‘The Little Mermaid’ all of Ariel’s sisters had names starting with the letter “A”, they are Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, Andrina, they were changed for live action.
In the new installment their names are now Mala, Karina, Indira, Perla, Tamika and Caspia. Even the book The Little Mermaid: Guide to Merfolk offers a description of each of them.
Mala (Karolina Conchet), who has pink scales and Asian features, is the bravest of the sisters. Karina (Kajsa Mohammar) has blue scales and white hair, she is the most isolated, but with more power of decision and intuition.
Indira (Simone Ashley) has yellow scales and traits of Indian culture, while being characterized by her empathy and kind heart. While Perla (Lorena Andrea) has pink scales and is defined as the most charismatic.
Tamika (Sienna Who), with her big Afro hairstyle, is the one with the most colorful scales among her sisters, as blue, yellow and orange colors cover her body. From her personality it is clarified that she is the rudest and loudest.
Finally, Caspia (Nathalie Sorrell) is the sister with pink hair and blue and yellow scales, she is the most selfless of them and is more concerned with serving her people.
Ariel’s siblings’ looks in ‘The Little Mermaid’ spark new controversy
Although Ariel’s six sisters now have a defined personality, represent and rule each of the seven seas, and have aspects that differentiate them from each other, not all fans are happy with the change.
Online, some have commented that unlike Halle Bailey as The Little Mermaid, the white-skinned sisters (Caspia, Karina and Pearl) look more like the version of Ariel from the classic animated film.
Even controversy was sparked by the logic behind each of their nationalities, as some on the Internet questioned how it was possible for them to be sisters but all look different.
There is also controversy over the design of each, as there are those who believe that their colors, hairstyles, and scales overshadow Ariel, who does not have bright red hair or a great design.
Directed by Rob Marshall and starring Halle Bailey, Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid hits theaters on May 26, 2023.
