Agrishow: the federal government could be excluded from the opening due to the possible presence of Bolsonaro

The Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, would have been advised to avoid possible embarrassments, but Agrishow denies it; the departure of the former president is not confirmed

OR federal government can be left without representatives at the opening of the agrishowthe largest agricultural event in the country, due to a malaise caused by a push and pull in the invitation to the Minister of Agriculture, Charles Favaroto participate in the event.

Sources close to Fávaro told al Stadium/Broadcast that the president of the fair, Francisco Maturro, telephoned the minister informing that the former president Jair Bolsonaro would be at the opening event in the company of the governor of the state, Tarcisio de Freitas, next Monday (1st). He allegedly suggested that Fávaro attend the fair the next day to avoid possible embarrassments. The minister was initially invited by the organization to the inauguration on Monday.

With the warning of Bolsonaro’s presence and the suggestion of the possibility of going another day, the minister chose not to participate in the fair, a decision that should be followed by the vice president and minister of industry, trade and services, Geraldo Alckmin. The fair held in Ribeirão Preto (SP) is sponsored by Banco do Brasil.

The report noted that Fávaro was expected to announce BRL 1.030 billion in additional funds at the fair to match credit for the 2022/23 Crop Plan. The amount has been negotiated by the Ministry of Agriculture with the Ministry of Finance since the beginning of March. The resources intended for equalization should generate an additional amount of R$ 30 billion for the agricultural credit policy which extends until June 30th.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed to the report that Fávaro will not be attending the fair. Questioned by the report, the Agrishow consultant said that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, has already confirmed his presence at the event.

Agrishow president Francisco Maturro denied Estadão/Broadcast that he “uninvited” Fávaro for the opening of the fair or even suggested he attend the event the following day.

“I invited the minister to stay in Ribeirão Preto on May 2, when there will be a meeting of the Parliamentary Front for Agriculture (FPA). If he wants to stay there (at the fair) every day, there will be a red carpet,” he said. Mature. “I would never commit the inelegance of disinviting someone,” he reiterated.

Maturro said he contacted the minister by telephone on Tuesday 25, to inform him that a flyer is circulating in the Ribeirão region stating that Bolsonaro will be present at the official opening of the fair. “Because I know not everything comes to the minister’s office, I told him that there was this movement,” he said. Despite the warning, the Agrishow president reiterated that the authorities respect each other and that “there is no hostility at the Agrishow”.

According to the president of Agrishow, the country’s main agricultural event serves as a showcase for the government and the organization of the fair has not yet been officially informed of the minister’s decision not to participate. “I hope the minister arrives. We need to unite the country and bring agriculture closer to the government”, he highlighted.

In a press release, Agrishow reiterated its invitation to Fávaro to participate in the inauguration. The organization of the event stated that, for the management of the event, “the minister has done an excellent job with great competence for the development of the Brazilian agribusiness”. “Your participation in the fair is very important for the entire sector,” reads the press release.

Also according to Agrishow, former president Jair Bolsonaro has not been officially invited and has not told the organization whether he will attend the event.

Bolsonarist stronghold

An electoral stronghold of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who still maintains strong ties to the industry, the anticipation of his presence at the event was widely publicized within São Paulo. Invitations to fans to receive Bolsonaro and Tarcísio at Leite Lope airport are circulating on social networks on Sunday 30, on the eve of the fair.

Traditionally, in election years, the fair received official government officials when it opened and candidates on other days. Earlier this month, questioned at a press conference on the presence of authorities, including for the articulation of credit, the organization of the fair mentioned the expectation of the presence of the Minister of Agriculture or the Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin.

At the time, the president of Agrishow said that the president of the republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, had also been invited and would be “very well received” if he could attend the fair.

conciliatory profile

In a note published on social networks, the Rural Union of Ribeirão Preto (SRRP), the Rural Association of Ribeirão Preto (ARRP) and the Rural Association Vale do Rio Pardo (Assovale) condemned what they called a “narrative petty” referring to the presence of Tarcísio and Bolsonaro at the event and absence of Fávaro.

According to them, Agrishow and his presidency have a “conciliatory profile”. “SRRP, ARRP and Assovale reject and condemn the narration brought by the press, hoping that all the agents mentioned will be present at the opening of the fair and act in synergy for the application of good public policies”, they state in the note.

An episode similar to that of the Agrishow took place at the Coopavel Rural Show, organized by the Coopavel cooperative, in Cascavel (PR), in February this year, the first in the calendar of agricultural events after the election of President Lula.

Fávaro was invited to attend the event by national cooperative leaders and the invitation was later withdrawn by representatives of the local organization who allegedly “warned” national leaders about the risks of retaliation for the minister’s attendance at the event.

For the occasion, the future secretary for agricultural policies of the ministry, former minister Neri Geller, was present at the fair in an agenda parallel to the organization of the event, promoted by the agricultural machinery industry.

Behind the scenes, leaders of the production sector repudiate the decision of the Agrishow organization and claim that there has been rudeness and “politicization” of the fair, favoring the previous government to the detriment of the current one.

The representatives of the sector bodies are still trying to sew an “agreement” between the ministry and Agrishow to alleviate the inconvenience generated. “An unnecessary animosity has been created for the government to start and for the sector to approach the new Executive,” summarizes a source.
