The end of Fast and Furious is very near

Universal has announced the official title and release date for the eleventh and final film in the “Fast & Furious” franchise. “Fast X – Part 2” will be released in theaters worldwide in 2025, the studio announced during a panel at CinemaCon 2023 on Wednesday (26).

The panel also showed an extended version of the trailer for Fast and Furious 10. The scenes paid homage to the previous nine films – recalling each of them – and to actor Paul Waker, who died in a car accident in 2013.

In the tenth film, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family are faced with the deadliest adversary they have ever faced. Driven by vengeance, a threat emerges from the shadows of the past to destroy everything – and everyone – that Dom loves. Toretto then, once again in command of the well-known team of racers, faced yet another difficult mission on four wheels.

The beginning of the final stretch will mark the debuts of Jason Momoa (“Aquaman”), Brie Larson (“Captain Marvel”), Alan Ritchson (“Reacher”), Daniela Melchior (“The Suicide Squad”) and Rita Moreno (“One Day at a Time”) in the franchise. Also, Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Scott Eastwood, Jordana Brewster and Sung Kang return to the cast.

The tenth film in the series is directed by Louis Leterrier (“The Incredible Hulk” – the one in Brazil) and written by Dan Mazeau, Justin Lin and Zach Dean. The premiere of the film is scheduled for May 19, 2023.

“Creative Disagreements”

Justin Lin’s departure from directing Fast and Furious 10 – shortly after production on the film began, in April 2022 – took fans by surprise. At the time, Lin said the reason was “creative divergence.”

“I’ve never seen anything like it. Lin is giving up $10 or $20 million [como diretor]a veteran producer with no involvement with the franchise told the NY Daily News. According to journalist Richard Johnson, also of the Daily News, the departure was due to the “difficulty” of working with Vin Diesel.

Although he stepped down as director, Lin remains executive producer and screenwriter of the film. And Louis Leterrier – whose background also includes the first two films in the Payload franchise – was tapped as a replacement.
