“I wanted them to give me Papa Smurf but it didn’t work out”
We will have to get used to seeing Rihanna dressed in blue. The singer makes a foray into the cinema again, after her role in ‘Oceans 8’, and will lend her voice to Smurfette, in the next Live-Action about ‘The Smurfs’.
The announcement of his participation came from the star himself, who appeared by surprise in the CinemaCon Las Vegas, to leave the public speechless with the news.
“I wanted them to give me Papa Smurf but it didn’t work out,” he joked on stage with the head of Paramount Animation, Ramsey Naito.
The fans of his music are also in luck, since in addition to announcing his participation in the film, the singer confirmed that she would sing, write and record original songs of her own, specifically produced for the project.
The singer, known for taking the time to compose and release new music, will offer us more material with which to enjoy her talent.
Dressed in a denim cape, she also shared that she is in the third trimester of her second child’s pregnancy.
About the ‘The Smurfs’ movie, according to Naito, it will explore issues of identity and seek an answer to what many have been thinking for a long time: “What is, actually, a Smurf?”
Based on Peyo’s comics, the story will follow the tribe of small and blue beings, in the life of their small village, avoiding the continuous attacks of the cat and Gargamel.
The premiere is scheduled for February 14, 2025. The wait is still long since it is in a very early stage of development. The script has been developed by Pam Brady and the film will be directed by Chris Miller.
CinemaCon, the event in which this news has arrived, has also been the platform that has shared the most news in recent days. Thanks to this, we have been able to learn about the plans of some major productions, or see the first images of some of the most anticipated films of 2023, such as ‘Barbie’, ‘Wonka’ or ‘Dune 2’.
In addition to this Live-Action that Paramount is preparing, the adventures of the Smurfs have also seen other film versions. ‘The Smurfs’, ‘The Smurfs 2’ and ‘The Smurfs: The Lost Village’. In these three cases they were animation tapes. Now, the live-action format will give a more “realistic” approach to the story.
We will have to be very attentive to the news that the singer is sharing about her musical process. Will we be lucky enough to get a preview of a piece of music? We’ll keep our fingers crossed…
