The Little Mermaidfrom 1989, remains one of Disney Studios’ most beloved and celebrated releases, as the critical and commercial success of the original film ushered in the era of animation’s historic run.
That said, the production directed by Rob Marshall faces the daunting task of not only retelling the story being faithful to the celebrated classic, but also avoiding similar mistakes that other recent Disney remakes have fallen into within its estimated 2-hour running time, such as Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Aladdin (2019).
In addition to Bailey starring in the film alongside Jonah Hauer-Kingthe star-studded cast includes the likes of: Melissa McCarthy (The Spy Who Knew Too Little) as Ursula, Javier Bardem (Eat Pray and Love) as king triton, Daveed Diggs (Blind spot) as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay (Extraordinary) as Sole It is Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as Seagull.
The live action remake of The Little Mermaid is due in theaters nationwide on May 26, 2023.
