In a special episode of James Corden’s Late Late Show, where the host spent last night at the helm of the famous talk show, the latter met again with Tom Cruise, who has been his guest many times over the years. But this time, it’s an epic performance in anticipation of Top Gun: The Maverick star crashing Broadway in the award-winning musical The Lion King, based on the iconic 1994 cartoon.
Known for: Tom Cruise never turns down a challenge. Jumping with a parachute, standing on the wing of an airplane during flight, moving a motorcycle off a cliff: all this was done by the star without any problems. But would you join a Broadway show after just one rehearsal? Things get complicated…
As Yahoo reports, Tom Cruise and James Corden joined the cast of The Lion King on stage at the historic Pantages Theater in Los Angeles for a special performance that the audience in attendance should not forget.
“Tonight we’re going to show them something they’ve never seen before. We can do magic”, Tom Cruise exclaims before going on stage in front of the band. In a rhinoceros costume shared with James Corden, the pair go unnoticed at first before finally returning as the iconic duo, Timon and Pumbaa. Tom Cruise portrays the legendary warthog and even explains Hakuna Matata: We’ve seen it all!
If he first doubts his abilities, he eventually goes for it. Then the shocked and amused audience recognizes him, as you can see in the following video (about 10 minutes in).
The sketch that aired Thursday night on CBS caused a sensation: enough to end James Corden’s run at the helm of the iconic show with a bang. The host actually announced his departure last year so he could devote himself to his family. Moreover, at that time Tom Cruise mocked her and told her that he regretted being fired. Either way, their performance is worth watching and will go down in the annals of the hit talk show.
