‘I did about 80% of my own stunts’: How Priyanka Chopra got injured on the set of Prime Video blockbuster Citadel

Prime Video premiered the first episodes of Citadel, its colossal budget spy series, on April 27. Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas play two ex-spies trying to stop a powerful syndicate from getting hold of nuclear missiles.

Produced by Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers 3 and 4, Captain America), The Citadel offers its share of action and stunts. They were able to rely on the work of coordinator Don Tai Theratada, who worked in particular on the blockbusters The Gray Man (Netflix), Creed II and Aquaman.

Our two heroes travel around the world and face various enemies, through combat and car chases (or skiing!). And to make the result as realistic as possible, the producers asked their headliners to do most of their action scenes.

The real challenge is updating Madden and Chopra to Jonas, even if the latter is a regular in the genre. He who cut his teeth in Bollywood action cinema has long been doing his stunts without an actual dubbing. And he proves it with this project:

I did about 80% of my stunts myself,” he told us. “They put me in a very safe environment where I could do that. I had a few doubles, but we had a great stunt team working with the best actors in the world and on the biggest films. So I relied on them and practiced a lot with them. We had to train for a year and a half to be able to do these stunts. We had to be very physically prepared. I really wanted my face on camera. So that you can see the actor who takes the punches, who takes them, and who bleeds. These were also the directives of the Rousseau brothers. And yes, I did get hit from time to time, but it was good!“.

Speaking of bumps, the former Quantico star is left with a few bruises and a nice scar on her browbone that she doesn’t take the time to hide on a daily basis. A “war wound” he inflicted on himself during a scene shot in the rain in London, as he explains This interview :”We were losing daylight, so we had to hurry to shoot. The ground was soaked and I stopped a meter short of my mark. So I went very close to the camera and took the case“.

So more fear than harm and a great anecdote to tell in an interview.
