Welcome to Emerald Bay. Available on Disney+, this adventure film is typical of Disney’s 1960s feature films. Adapted from Mary Stewart’s novel, we follow Nikki Ferris and her aunt as they travel to Crete and meet Mark, a young Englishman currently on holiday. When Nikki finds Mark injured, she wonders if her vacation will be as relaxing as this…

Emerald Bay is one of several thrillers produced by Disney Studios. The film always oscillates between a serious and childish tone, giving it a rather unique tone. Since it contains some fights, dangerous stunts and even a bit of blood, it’s best to wait 10 years to show it to your kids.

Nick and Mark
which they will fall in love with
- Treasure hunts and mysteries to be discovered little by little as a novice Sherlock Holmes.
- If we don’t run away from the “Crete postcard” side, we have to admit that the local traditional culture makes you want to travel on the sofa and that the scenery is luxurious.
- Heroine Nicky, who is given a pretty good narrative treatment for a 1964 film. Although excluded from the fray, she repeatedly saves the day for her male counterpart and stands up for him as and when needed.
- A beautiful mill sequence in which Nick shows that he doesn’t need anyone and which is one of the great visual moments of the film.

Things can bother them
- Exactly the scene at the mill where Nick is supposed to come down from when filming. There is a real risk of dizziness, and we fear that the heroine will fall and hurt herself (or worse).
- The villain, played by Eli Wallach, tries to run over Mark in his speedboat (then into the water) and then spear him!
