Screenwriters protest against wages and working conditions deemed inadequate. The negotiations involve entertainment giants such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney

Film and television writers by hollywood announced a strike starting at midnight this Tuesday 2. The measure was taken after negotiations with studios and streaming platforms for better wages and working conditions did not end in an agreement.

The announcement was made by the screenwriters union, Writers Guild of America (WGA), who said on Twitter that council members had voted unanimously to go on strike. According to the union, the blocking of access to studios will begin on the afternoon of Wednesday 3.

The negotiations lasted six weeks and involved entertainment giants such as Netflix, amazon, apple, disney, NBCUniversal, Fundamental, sony AND Warner Bros..

WGA’s bargaining committee said it entered the process with the intention of reaching a fair settlement, but the studios’ responses were deemed “wholly inadequate” by the writers given the precarious working conditions they face./AFP.
