This Monday, May 1, US channel Fox announced the cancellation of 9-1-1 at the end of its 6th season. But let fans rest assured, the drama series created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear n didn’t happen. to have his final say as ABC decided to bring him back to the air.
The Season 6 finale, which airs on May 15 in the US, will not be a series finale, with 9-1-1 joining ABC’s programming schedule starting next season. Meanwhile, 9-1-1: Lone Star, its spin-off, has been renewed for a 5th season by Fox.
“It was an honor to be the first channel to broadcast 9-1-1, and we are grateful to Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, as well as Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Ryan Guzman And the rest of the cast and crew for bringing such an important series to Fox“, the press release of the network says.We wish them the best of luck with their 9-1-1 finale on Fox.”
Fox’s decision to end 9-1-1, one of the channel’s most popular series, is primarily a financial one. According to sources, the episode cost more than $9 million to make, compared to Lone Star’s $6 million to $7 million, which explains Fox’s choice to keep the spin-off off the air.
Blame it on big-name actors, including Angela Bassett and Peter Krause, and plots centered around major disasters involving lots of visual effects and elaborate stunts.
Of course, this is not the first time that a canceled series has been picked up by another channel. We still remember Medium, which moved from NBC to CBS, Scrubs (NBC-ABC), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Fox-NBC) and, more recently, Magnum PI (CBS-NBC).
Season 6 of 9-1-1 is currently broadcast every Tuesday evening from 9.10pm on M6. Seasons 1 through 5 are available on Disney+.
